Time after time...

I know it's been at least a year since I've posted (save the one below), so I figure it was time to beat the bushes again and see what shakes out of'em.

If you don't know or haven't heard (or guessed), I'm back in Afghanistan again.  Hard to believe this whole mess started 8 years ago for me.  If I was actually IN the Army, I probably would have been deployed almost this much, but who knows.  At this point, I'm just tired.  Ready to go back to Texas and settle down on my own patch of earth and make a go of whatever I want to do--farming, animals, hunting, nature, living off-the-grid, enjoying all the things I haven't been able to really enjoy for the past eight years.

I'll never get back the time I've been gone, but I've always tried to focus on quality time.  My biggest fear is that Mikey has been the one that has lost the most in that equation.  It's time WE will never get back, but we'll just have to start making up as best we can.  He's such a smart kid and he's well-adjusted, a pleasure to be around, and it's just awesome to see that big-ass brain of his in action.  I know he's in good hands with Jamie and Dave (and Maddie too... what a cutie), but I still miss him every single day.  You just miss out on so many little things when you're gone for these long periods.  I know Kristy misses me as well, but we're keeping in touch as much as we can thanks to technology.  Glad it's not like wars of the past or we'd be screwed cause I am not good with "letters".  If I had to write all of this, I guarantee you it would be much shorter.

For those not on FaceBook or in the loop, Kristy and I got married just before I came back to Afghanistan for the long-haul.  Being married again has added new dimensions to life, so I'm excited to see things moving in a positive direction.  We have lots of plans and figuring out how to fit all that together is interesting and fun.  It can be frustating at times, but I got a good one--she gets me, so it's all worth it.  We're working on a family of our own and tackling a lot of major life changes all at once--go big or go home, right?  So while I don't get to post as much as I'd like, I will try to do more as time allows.  It's certianly not easy coordinating things when we're almost 8,000 miles apart, but we make do.

As usual, another contract, another company, but this one has been the best so far and will allow me to make the best use of the "resources" they are providing so that I can continue to implement and enhance my personal plans as much as possible.

That's about all I've got right now, so I'll leave you with my simple thought for the day:

Sometimes, it IS the little things... so keep stiring your own purple drank and have fun.

Y'all be good.

  1. Where's the damn "like" button???

It's funny, people marvel at how much we've taken on in the 'short' time we've been together... I guess I agree, but for some reason, even though it's hectic and sometimes stresses me out (okay, often), it seems natural to me. Partly because it doesn't feel like we've only been together for a few months. Partly because it feels like we have some catching up to do. Mostly it's because we're both the type of people that know what we want, and we don't see the point in waiting around for it... Ironic since this year is all about waiting, but once that time is up we're going to hit the ground running.
