Took a tour of the Jack Daniels distillery yesterday. That was fun. No samples--kinda disappointed. It was still a really cool tour. We had the best tour guide, he pretty much made it awesome. If you ever go, do what you can to get on the tour with the big guy. He wears a straw hat with a green visor cutout (can't miss him). Most of the tour is inside the "production" buildings, so we weren't allowed to photo any of that stuff. Too bad, since it was the most interesting parts of the tour. We got to see the corn mash fermenting, the 140 proof, white alcohol being distilled, and the 10' tall charcoal stacks (basically big-ass barrels) where they mellow it. The smell was enough to bring my hangover back. Sure would be great to get my very own Single Barrel, but at $10,000.00 I'll have to pay a few bills first (prices may vary according your states tax laws). You get the actual barrel that your hooch was matured in and it's all bottled into about 240-250 bottles, then palletized and shipped to you. They give you about 3 samples in the single barrel production area so you can pick the one you want. Then, you get your name on a plaque in the room next to the Single Barrel Production area. If you're into, it's kinda cool. Looking at the retail price, it evens out overall, but hey YOU GET TO KEEP THE BARREL! Fun stuff. Not sure why I never went down there when I was up in Clarksville in 2005.
Y'all have fun and as they in Lynchburg, "please enjoy their products responsibly".
