For someone who was “scared to death” when he first started as a tour guide at the Jack Daniel Distillery, Randy “Goose” Baxter sure seems like a natural these days.
With a loud, bellowing voice that can be heard from one end of the Hollow to the other, Goose keeps distillery visitors plenty entertained while offering loads of information on how our Tennessee Whiskey is made. He’s been leading tours for 22 years, and it’s just second nature to him now.
“When I first started doing this, I was scared to death,” says Goose, who has been employed at Jack Daniel’s since 1976. “There’s nothing to it now. It’s really an enjoyable job. I’ll tell you, it sure beats working.”
Goose, who got his nickname when he was just a young boy (“I have no idea where the name came from,” he says), grew up on a farm in Moore County. He now lives on 30 acres just outside of Lynchburg, with his wife and young daughter.
“There’s nothing like it,” says Goose. “Just good country living.”
