Buddhas of Bamian (or Bamiyan)

This is the large Buddha... or should I say "Where the large Buddha should still be." I have a lot of negative comments about the ignorance of the Talibs and their Paki friends that destroyed them, but I'll save those for another forum.

These kids were out joyriding their dad's donkey... I'm sure they are just returning with supplies from the market, but when they stopped, we decided to take some pics and give them some bubble gum. The little one in the back was a bit apprehensive until he had some gum to chew on and we showed him his pic on the camera. Then we at least got a slight smile. I just can't imagine kids in the US riding a donkey around town at that age. If you look toward the back, they brought a spare just in case the primary donkey broke down. Check out my web album for the rest of the pics.
